Our Philosophy

At Swan Childcare we believe that each child is unique, and that each child develops at their own pace. Therefore, we value and develop each child’s strengths, interests, skills, abilities and knowledge to extend their learning. We believe that children learn through healthy and happy environments, through daily educational activities and through play.

We believe in cultural diversity. We celebrate the benefits of diversity with each child and enable them to understand and acknowledge differences.

Environment plays a major role in the success of an early childhood program. It should enhance the children's interest in all developmental domains.  We believe learning in an early childhood environment is done most successfully through stations that can be visited, explored, and revisited again and again. The environment should take into consideration the social skills, communication skills, physical abilities or challenges, and learning styles of the children being served.

The early years of a child’s life are busy. We believe learning is happening all the time and is interwoven through all developmental domains. These include:

Socially

• Problem solving, socialization and cooperation with peers, teachers and their environment, cultural awareness, and taking turns taking and sharing

Physically

• Develop gross & fine motor skills, body awareness, listening skills and increased attention span

​

Creatively

• Facilitating imagination, stimulate curiosity, encourage creativity and creative play

​

Cognitively

• Expressive language, attention span, concept understanding, mathematical skills, reading and writing skills

Emotionally

• Express and soothe feelings, enhance feelings of self-esteem and give and receive empathy and sympathy.

The goal of our program is to make this ongoing learning experience safe, positive, and fun, nurturing the whole child as we strive to guide them into the next stage of development with confidence in themselves and an excitement for continued learning.

Children need the assurance of being loved and cared for while they are enjoying an educational environment. Teaching children is our passion. Security and trust are very important components as well, of our relationship with each child.

In planning our program we strive for a developmentally appropriate, child-centred atmosphere where children have the opportunity to master new challenges through activities and topics that are meaningful to them, thus building their self-esteem as they develop and learn. Children should be given choices, responsibilities, and opportunities to initiate their own learning, and our responsibilities to provide young children positive learning experiences.

Our doors are always open for your viewing, participation, and feedback. The goal is to awaken the child’s spirit and imagination, encourage children’s desire for independence with a high self esteem, and create a spirit of joyful learning. All this to help the child master the skills and knowledge of their society. Each early childhood educator will work as partners with you (the parent(s)/guardian) in guiding your child in the right direction towards overall early success.
